Archaeology Demonstration at Historic Site

September 9 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

In observation of Archaeology Awareness Month, Macktown Living History Education Center is inviting the public to observe an archaeological dig at the historic site in Macktown Forest Preserve. You may even get to try your hand at screening for artifacts! Professional archaeologist, Jay Martinez, of Midwest Archaeological Research Services, will explain the historic and pre-historic significance of the dig site and the methods used to excavate it. The Macktown historic site has produced artifacts as old as 8,000 years!

Macktown Living History Education Center celebrates the unique heritage of Winnebago County’s voyageurs, pioneers and indigenous peoples.
