Species Spotlight: Odonata

February 17 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

FPWC Headquarters

Dragonflies and damselflies represent a most ancient order of insects, the Odonata. Fierce predators and elegant fliers, the odonata are fascinating and beautiful. Attend this morning session to learn about these magnificent organisms, and perhaps prepare to start monitoring them, yourself. To present the training, esteemed local naturalist and citizen scientist Barbara Williams will team up with Lalainya Goldsberry, who is now coordinating the Illinois Odonata Survey through the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago.

Pre-register online HERE no later than Monday, February 12th if you wish to reserve a printed copy of the instructional materials at the event.  Walk-ins are always welcome, though space is limited.

Download this helpful resource free of chargeDamselflies of Chicagoland: A Photo Field Guide by Marla Garrison.  Additional resources will be available at this event, as well.

This session is free and open to anyone interested in learning about dragonflies and damselflies; however, those interested in volunteering as official FPWC Odonate Monitors will need to attend this training. Contact our volunteer coordinator via e-mail at komalley@winnebagoforest.org, or call (815) 877-6100 for more information.
