Art Rocks in the Forest Preserves

Get outside! Have fun! Free activity! Be creative! Explore forest preserves to find painted rocks!

A fun, active project to get people into the forest preserves. Paint rocks and leave them to be placed in 4 forest preserves for people to find and move (creatively place them!) for others to find. Search for painted rocks and move them to new places.

Paint rocks up to 3” and creatively place them in the following places:

  • Severson Dells Forest Preserve in The Grove, 8502 Montague Rd., Rockford
  • Hononegah Forest Preserve from the Bird Grove Shelter to playground’ 80 Hononegah Rd., Rockton (not within playground pits)
  • Kilbuck Bluffs Forest Preserve in the Fort Chartes Shelter area, 3020 South Bend Rd., Rockford
  • Sugar River Forest Preserve from the Sand Bluff Shelter to the river’ 10127 Forest Preserve Rd., Durand

Search for painted rocks and move them to new places.

BE RESPECTFUL of plants and animals.

Post photos of your rocks and their creative spots on our Facebook page:
