Winter Preserve Gate Closings & Accessibility

Enjoy the forest preserves all winter long! We work hard to keep many sites open- no matter what Mother Nature throws our way. Vehicle access to preserves will be limited to select preserve locations once the roadways become snow or ice covered due to staff and equipment limitations. Walk -in use is welcomed at all preserve locations, with some hard paths kept cleared, but not all parking lots will be available and not all gates or roadways will be open.

Celebrate Nature Fiesta- May 19, 2018

WildOnes4-6Nature Fiesta, Saturday, May 19 from 11:00 until 3:00, is Winnebago County’s only bilingual Nature Celebration. Part environmental education and part festival, Nature Fiesta is an afternoon when people from all over the community come together to enjoy learning about our local nature.

Ecosystem Services: Indispensable– Invaluable – Irreplaceable

Ecosystem services defines the value and impact of protecting nature and the benefits gained. There is a direct correlation with natural systems and their diverse benefits to human economies. Once we understand the impact and overall value of Ecosystem Services, we can better prioritize money and resources to protect ecosystems far into the future.
