Forest Preserves of Winnebago County Receives Grant for Nature Education Event
Forest Preserves of Winnebago County has been selected to receive a $1,800.00 grant from the Community Grants Program of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois with support from the Meryle A. Stockhus Fund.
The grant funds will be used to host a bilingual nature education event this spring. Nature Fiesta: A Bilingual Celebration of Nature will take place on Saturday, May 19th at Blackhawk Springs Forest Preserve. Nature Fiesta will feature interactive exhibits, games, crafts and guided hikes designed to raise awareness of our local rivers, prairies, woods and wildlife. Exhibits and materials will be offered in both English and Spanish. Nature Fiesta is free and open to the public.
2018 will be the third year that FPWC has hosted the popular community event. Mike Holan, Forest Preserves of Winnebago County Executive Director, says, “This generous grant from CFNI allows us to invite even more local families to discover the wonders of nature that await in our 43 forest preserves.”
Forest Preserves of Winnebago County is partnering with Lathrop School (RPS 205) and Wild Ones of Rock River Valley to offer Nature Fiesta in 2018.
