Ash Tree Removal at Atwood Homestead Forest Preserve
During the Month of December, Natural Resource staff have begun the removal of a significant number of Ash trees at Atwood Homestead Forest Preserve which have become infected with the Emerald Ash Borer. Once infected the tree dies and becomes brittle very quickly, posing potential safety risks for the trees positioned in picnic areas or along roadways. Next spring District staff will begin replanting with other native type tree species. Any questions or for more information, please contact Forest Preserve Headquarters at 815-877-6100.
