ROLL CALL
At 5:40, recording secretary Judi Day called the roll. Six Commissioners were present. Judy Barnard arrived at 5:43. Copies of the District’s annual financial report for 2010 were distributed.
PLEDGE of ALLEGIANCE
Jay Ferraro led the assemblage in the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL of MINUTES Minutes for June 7 were approved.
ACTION ITEMS
Tax abatement – This item was laid over at the June 21 meeting. Gloria Lind moved to approve the abatement for Rail Construction Equipment Company for a period of two years, and Jay seconded. After discussion, motion to approve the abatement was defeated by a vote of three in favor and four against. Those voting No were Jay Ferraro, Audrey Johnson, Cheryl Maggio, and Randy Olson.
Board schedule – Gloria Lind explained that she will not be able to attend meetings on Wednesdays. Jay moved and Mary McNamara-Bernstein seconded to overturn the change in Board schedule made at the June 21 meeting. Motion passed unanimously. Board will resume meeting on the third Tuesday of each month, beginning with the August 9 meeting.
Tour of preserves – There will be a tour of selected preserves on Tuesday, July 19, from noon to 6:00. Commissioners will meet at Headquarters and be transported in a fifteen-seat van.
STRATEGIC PLANNING
Definitions – Pam Reidenbach led the Board and staff through a process of small-group discussions on the following terms: Preservation
Recreation
Education – as they relate to the District.
Each group presented their definitions. Judy, Mary, and Jamie Johannsen will meet on July 7 to assimilate the various offerings into one definition for each.
Next – (Internal) strength-weakness analysis and (external) opportunities-threats analysis.
Next strategic planning session will be at Headquarters at 5:30 on July 12.
ANNOUNCEMENTS and COMMUNICATIONS
• “Party on the Prairie” will take place at Nygren Wetlands by the NLI at 6:00 on July 9.
• A tree auction will take place during “Trees of Klehm” at Klehm Arboretum and Botanic Garden on July 22.
