ROLL CALL 

The meeting was called to order at 5:32 PM, by President Barnard.  Recording secretary Ronelle Johnson called the roll.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE     Mike Eickman led the assemblage in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

APPROVAL OF AGENDA and MINUTES      Minutes for December 20, 2017 were approved.  No changes or additions were made to the agenda.

 

PRESENTATIONS and PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Training – In December 2017, the Preserves adopted a Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy.  The policy requires all employees and Commissioners to attend training.   Kim O’Malley conducted the training for the Commissioners, Management and the Recording Secretary at this meeting, which lasted approximately 50 minutes.

 

2017 Illinois Land Conservation Review –    A handout was given to all Commissioners entitled 2017 Year in Review.  Judy announced that it is a summary of all the land that was purchased by Land Trusts, Forest Preserves and Conservation Districts in 2017.  Judy wanted all Commissioners to have a copy to read at their leisure as it gives an overview of what has been done statewide as far as land acquisition and protecting natural areas.

 

ACTION ITEMS

Bills for December – Mike Eickman made a motion, Gloria Lind seconded to authorize the payment of the bills for December in the amount of $337,299.58.  Motion passed unanimously. 

 

STAFF REPORTS

Executive Director – Mike reported that he, Jamie, and Greg Rajsky met with the Editorial Board of the Rockford Register Star to promote the Citizen Scientist Program.  The Rockford Register Star will be doing an editorial on the Citizen Scientist Program in Friday’s paper, January 19.  Mike also had an interview with WREX regarding the gaming machines.

 

Preserve Operations – Vaughn Stamm submitted a written report.

 

Land and Development – Tom Hartley submitted a written report.

 

Golf Operations – Mike Holan submitted a written report.  Vaughn distributed a 2017 Golf Operations Financial Report.

 

Marketing and Community Relations – Jamie Johannsen submitted a written report.

 

Environmental Education – Ann Wasser submitted a written report.  Ann also reported that the carpet has been replaced and the wood floors have been refinished, as well as some exhibit funding has been received.

 

Human Resources/Volunteer Program Report – Kim O’Malley submitted a written report.

 

Law Enforcement – Sheriff’s Department submitted a written report.

January 27 – Species Spotlight – Bluebirds at Forest Preserve Headquarters from 9:00 a.m. – Noon.

February 3 – Species Spotlight – Plants at Forest Preserve Headquarters from 9:00 a.m. – Noon.

February 17 – Species Spotlight – Odonates at Forest Preserve Headquarters from 9:00 a.m. – Noon.

February 24 – Species Spotlight – Calling Frog at Forest Preserve Headquarters from 9:00 a.m. – Noon.

Natural Land Institute – Annual Dinner – George & Barbara Fell Dinner – March 13, Giovannis.
