Macktown Living History Update – Ray Ferguson thanked everyone for coming to Macktown and announced they received a grant for the Sylvester Stevens building which was able to furnish some of the building with equipment that the Community Foundation gave them. A new booklet about Macktown was passed out to the Commissioners and is also being given to the Community. Char Ferguson continued to speak about the grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois. In December 2018, Macktown received $18,366 from the John Lundeen Historic Preservation Fund. Char also spoke about and passed out information regarding Steven’s Shop. Dr. Rochelle Lurie went into detail about the archaeology digs being held at Macktown. She also spoke on the 10- 2’x3’ signs that are being created for Macktown by their volunteers. A copy of the Hayes Tavern sign and the Shell Midden sign were passed out to the Commissioners. The signs will hopefully be installed within the next 3 months. One day a week Macktown holds a field school for kids/teenagers and the same for adults. In August a representative will be at Macktown from Ho Chunk for their Second Sunday Event.

Mike Holan spoke on behalf of Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden and Alex Mill. They would like to thank everyone from the Forest Preserves for their support of this year’s Garden Fair. The volunteer time by individuals and the use of golf carts for shuttling guests and vendors at the event were critical to its success, and the Klehm staff, board and volunteers are all deeply appreciative of the support of the Forest Preserves for this event, which is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the organization. It was a tremendous success and couldn’t have been done without your help.
