Citizen Science-Butterfly Monitoring Training

Doug Taron, Ph.D., Director of the Illinois Butterfly Monitoring Network, and Curator of Biology & V.P. of Research/Conservation for The Chicago Academy of Sciences and its Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, returns to the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County to delve deeper into the world of butterfly monitoring.

Beyond the Beginner’s Checklist” and “The Top Six Skippers” will be the topic of today’s training session, along with a refresher of the butterfly data-collecting protocol for returning monitors with established census routes.  

This event is free and open to anyone interested in learning about butterfly identification and the Illinois Butterfly Monitoring Network data-collecting protocol.  

Pre-registration is required no later than Monday, April 27th in order to receive instructional materials. Walk-ins are welcome, though space is limited. Call (815) 877-6100 or e-mail  komalley@winnebagoforest.org.
