Species Spotlight: Grassland Birds and Breeding Birds

March 23 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Free

FPWC Headquarters Despite its nickname, the “Prairie State” now has less than 0.01% of its pre-European settlement prairie. This dramatic loss of northern Illinois original landscape has had a devastating impact on the birds that depend on them. Learn about the importance of our local restored prairies and grasslands to migrating and nesting grassland bird species. Jennifer Kuroda, president of Sinnissippi Audubon, will give an overview on the status of our native grassland birds and announce a new monitoring program to collect data on breeding birds in the forest preserves. Become a citizen scientist and support Audubon’s and FPWC’s conservation efforts designed to halt population declines of grassland birds. Pre-register for this session online by clicking HERE no later than Thursday, March 21st  if you wish to reserve a printed copy of the instructional materials at the event.  Walk-ins are always welcome, though space is limited.

This session is free and open to anyone interested in learning about grassland birds; however, those interested in volunteering as an official FPWC Monitor will need to complete our volunteer application.
