Bunker Renovations Leads List of Enhancements Funded by Golf Capital Improvement Fees

Forest Preserves of Winnebago County announces construction is under way on renovation of the Ledges, Atwood Homestead and Macktown Golf Courses. The ambitious golf course improvement plan will further highlight the natural beauty of the three courses and improve playability and overall guest experience.

The first phase of the capital improvement project began in 2018 with bunker and clubhouse enhancements at all three courses. The second phase begins in summer 2019 with bunker renovations at The Ledges and Atwood Homestead and will carry over into 2020. Work this summer will consist of excavation of the existing bunker sand, soil, & rock; placement and shaping of topsoil; installation of drain tile and catch basins; installation of bunker liners; placement and shaping of new bunker sand; and finally the finishing touches will include adding new sod and grass seed around the bunker edges and surrounding areas. Throughout the on-course upgrades, both courses will remain open for play.

Golf course and clubhouse enhancements are being funded primarily by a Golf Capital Improvement Fee implemented in 2019. The implementation of capital improvement fees was approved through a poll taken at the three golf courses in 2018.

Golf Manager, Rich Rosenstiel, remarks “Forest Preserves of Winnebago County is pleased to be partnering with our golfers on this renovation project. We know the infrastructure improvements will translate into immediate benefits for our golfers who made them possible.”
