Kieselburg Forest Preserve by Tara Crothers
Entrance on 5801 Swanson Road, Roscoe, IL
Kieselburg Forest Preserve offers an easy and serene walk through prairie and woodlands. Near the picnic shelters on the main entrance drive are the trailheads for about 2.9 miles of hiking trails. The Prairie trail starts out flat and grassy before slightly becoming inclined. Overall, I would recommend this trail for beginner hikers or for family hikes. It is relatively low key and the landscape is beautiful. Along the trail, rabbits, an array of birds, as well as deer can be spotted frequently. During the Prairie trail, one gets to experience both prairie and woodland landscapes. The trail is very well maintained and decently marked. I hiked about half of the trail system in forty minutes before heading back. I really enjoyed this trail and cannot wait to hike it again.
