New Interpretive Signs at Ferguson Forest Preserve

Interpretive Signs Installed at Ferguson Forest Preserve

A new series of ten interpretive signs has been installed along the trail at Ferguson Forest Preserve in Shirland, IL. The signs feature color photos and educational information about the history, wildlife, and ecology of the newest of Winnebago County’s 42 forest preserves. The new signage will enhance visitors’ understanding and appreciation of the high conservation value and biodiversity of 525-acre Ferguson Preserve, and its prime location at the confluence of the Sugar and Pecatonica Rivers.

The interpretive signs were designed and produced with funds provided by a grant from the Openlands/ ComEd Green Regions program.

Ferguson Forest Preserve is underdevelopment. At present there is one perimeter hiking trail and an informal parking area on Winslow Road which is intended to be developed and become the permanent parking location. Enter at Winslow Road.
